PR writers are in demand, especially with online media, and they can make money if they are willing to search the job market and bargain pay rates with potential clients.

Writers with persistence and the ability to make companies and products look great make great public relations copywriters. The big question is: how much money can a PR writer expect to make? The higher paying public relations jobs deal with campaigning and product launching while nonprofit and other organizations tend to pay on the lower side.

Pay for Event Promotions and Publicity

Event promotion and publicity copywriters can expect to be paid per hour and occasionally by the day.

  • The average pay rate is $60 per hour or $500 per day
  • The high end of payment is $85 per hour
  • The low end of payment is $50 per hour

Pay for Book Jacket Copywriting

Book jacket copywriters can expect to be paid by the hour, by the project or by the word.

  • The average pay rate is $70 per hour, $500 per project or $0.75 per word
  • The high end of payment is $100 per hour, $700 per project or $1 per word
  • The low end of payment is $40 per hour, $350 per project or $0.50 per word

Pay for Campaign Development or Product Launch

Campaign developers and product launchers can expect to be paid by the hour or project.

  • The average pay rate is $90 per hour or $4,000 per project
  • The high end of payment is $150 per hour or $9,000 per project
  • The low end of payment is $50 per hour or $1,500 per project

Pay for Business Public Relations

PR business copywriters can expect to be paid by the hour or day.

  • The average pay rate is $90 per hour or $350 per day
  • The high end of payment is $175 per hour or $500 per day
  • The low end of payment is $50 per hour or $200 per day

Pay for Government Public Relations

PR government copywriters can expect to be paid by the hour.

  • The average pay rate is $60 per hour
  • The high end of payment is $90 per hour
  • The low end of payment is $50 per hour

Pay for Organizations and Nonprofits Public Relations

PR organization copywriters or PR nonprofit copywriters can expect to be paid by the hour.

  • The average pay rate is $50 per hour
  • The high end of payment is $80 per hour
  • The low end of payment is $20 per hour

Pay for Schools or Libraries Public Relations

PR school or library copywriters can expect to be paid by the hour.

  • The average pay rate is $60 per hour
  • The high end of payment is $80 per hour
  • The low end of payment is $50 per hour

Remember that few will earn the higher end of the pay range, as this payment is reserved for experts who are well known in their field. Beginning PR writers should expect the lower end of payment until they have developed their skills and have built a solid portfolio. Don't be afraid to bargain with clients for a different pay or payment method.
